Reiki for Dogs

Reiki helps healthy dogs stay that way, promoting energy, health and well being. Reiki also treats physical or mental issues and brings pain relief for dogs recovering from surgery.

Performing reiki for dogs has the added bonus of promoting a strong bond between you and your pet.

Animal reiki is a powerful yet gentle form of holistic healing that compliments conventional medicine beautifully. It’s a skill that is easily learned, one I recommend for every pet owner.

Because animals have no preconceived notions regarding energy work that could interfere with the healing, you’ll often see results after the first treatment.

As well as providing general pain relief for dogs, reiki can help with emotional issues like anxiety before it leads to behavioral problems.

You can also treat issues like respiratory problems, canine hip dysplasia and more with reiki for dogs.

For best results, before beginning the healing session you should centre yourself through meditation or by performing a brief reiki session on yourself.

Ensure you have a quiet space to conduct the healing where you won't be disturbed, and clear it with smudging, white light or reiki.

Take the time to connect with your dog to familiarize them with your energy. Patting and softly talking to them will help relax them for their reiki treatment.

Like people, dogs have seven energy centres known as chakras. These are the Root Chakra, located at the base of the tail, followed by the Sacral Chakra, the Solar Plexus Chakra, Heart Chakra, Throat Chakra, Third-eye Chakra and Crown Chakra.

As with people, each chakra is associated with specific organs and glands, so you can target the healing accordingly, or begin at the root and give a full-body reiki treatment.

You might like to lightly rub each chakra centre before beginning reiki.

If the treatment is for pain relief, hold your hands slightly above the dog and project the healing energy to the affected area.

Do you suspect a broken bone? Don't administer reiki before seeing your Vet and having the bone properly set. Reiki healing works so quickly it can mend the break, requiring the bone to be re-broken so it heals correctly.

If the issue is a burn, hold your hands several inches above the affected area so as not to transmit additional heat.

When performing animal reiki, it’s important to stay mentally present. Watch for cues that will tell you the dog has had enough for this session, such as appearing restless or agitated.

But don’t be surprised if your dog falls asleep, as reiki promotes deep relaxation in people and animals alike. When the treatment is complete be sure to wash your hands to break the energetic connection.

Pain relief for dogs can sometimes only come with their passing. Though this is always emotionally difficult, reiki for dogs can assist dying animals in their transition, thus bringing comfort both to the dog and their owners.
