Reflexology Techniques for your Sole Mates

Reflexology Techniques vary, as each treatment is tailored to meet individual needs.
Professional treatments are a real treat for your feet, but learning to 'do it yourself' can be a spiritually empowering way to really connect with your 'sole mates' and take charge of your health.
Reflexology techniques stimulate your nerve endings. This increases the flow of energy and promotes balance, restoring your natural state of health.
By applying pressure to certain areas of your feet, a reflexologist can stimulate under active areas or calm overactive ones.
Some benefits of reflexology are that it: - Rejuvenates the body - Is a natural painkiller - Effectively treats stress-related disorders such as low back pain, headaches and high blood pressure - Is effective for emotional issues such as depression, sexual dysfunction and eating disorders.
Reflexology is very helpful during times of high stress, and can be easily added into your regular health program.
The goal is to unblock any congested areas and balance your body's energies. The results will last as long as the energy flow remains undisturbed.
Try it Yourself
Practicing reflexology daily on your own feet can extend
the benefits of regular professional treatments. Consult our handy reflexology foot maps charts for quick reference.
Reflexology is a quick way to treat headaches (by rubbing your big toes), clear sinuses (by pinching the tips of the toes), even treat a hangover (stimulate the liver, kidneys, stomach and solar plexus areas).
Other benefits of reflexology include:
- stress relief
- muscle relaxation
- improved blood circulation
- detoxing your body
- balancing your body systems
This therapy is not recommended in the case of injuries to the feet, thrombosis, diabetes, systematic diseases, or pregnancy.
Professional Reflexology Treatments
Professional treatments generally range from 30 to 60 minutes, but the
stress-relieving benefits can be felt within minutes.
The following reflexology techniques are typical.
On your first visit the therapist will ask your medical
background and explain the reflexology procedure. They may even show you reflexology points using reflexology charts similar to those on this page!
You'll be asked to relax in a reclining chair or on a treatment table. Shoes and socks are removed to let the therapist examine and cleanse your feet before beginning the treatment.
The therapist will apply a comfortable pressure to
reflexology points on your foot, asking how the pressure feels and adjusting it accordingly.
Though the techniques are designed to stimulate relaxation, you may feel pressure or slight discomfort in particular spots, indicating there is congestion in that area.
Tension and stress can cause calcium and uric acid build
ups in the feet, which put pressure on nerves and muscles,
creating these tender areas.
With repeated reflexology treatments these blockages will
be released and any pain associated with them will disappear.
Your treatment will likely conclude with the therapist rubbing aromatherapy oil or lotion on your feet, leaving your
entire body relaxed and rejuvenated.
You may feel more emotional than usual as
you adjust to the new flow of energy. It's natural for
feelings to come up as energy pathways open, just accept and release them.
It's
recommended that you drink lots of water after a treatment, to help toxins release.
The results will
last as long as your energy flow remains undisturbed.
