Creating Space with Mindful Walking

Through the years I have discovered that the best stress reliever I have found is taking time out for you. In this busy fast-paced world it is easy to put ourselves last on the 'To Do' list.

Taking time out of your daily schedule to refresh and rejuvenate is crucial to your well-being. A break from your routine can put you in a better frame of mind if you are feeling stressed from work, children or relationships etc.

'YOU' time can be as little as ten minutes to an hour depending on how much time you have in your schedule. You can start with ten minutes during your work day and then build up to a longer period on days off, weekends or evenings.

If you are at work and have a limited time you can take a few moments to go out for a walk. Even if you work in a city or an industrial area taking a walk in the sunshine or feeling the wind on your face may be all it takes to reconnect you with nature.

Mindful walking is one of my favourite routines to do during my lunch when I am working. When I walk I let go of all thoughts by concentrating on feeling each foot-step...on feeling the air or sun on my skin....on listening to the sounds around me and looking at and appreciating the things I see. Suspending all thoughts gives your mind and body a break.

When I return from my walk I feel refreshed and ready to continue with my day. If I had a problem on my mind before I left sometimes I come back with a different perspective.
