Aromatherapy and Oils to Enhance Your Daily Life

Aromatherapy and oils

Aromatherapy and oils have been used for millennia to promote healing and enhance daily life.

The effects of aromatherapy depend on the essential oil being used, and the method of using it.

Essential oils come in in liquid, semi-solid or solid forms. There are several ways to use them. You can add them to massage oil, use them in hot or cold compresses, add to a bath, or dab on pulse points.

Aromatherapy and Oils Remedies for Common Symptoms

There are several ways you can use aromatherapy to bring quick relief.

For example, you can sooth aching muscles or strains by massaging stimulating or relaxing oils into the skin.

Use a prepared oil, or add about five drops of the essential oil to four ounces of a carrying oil (such as olive oil or almond oil) to create your own unique blend.

Hot or cold essential oil compresses are great for treating your muscle aches, bruises or headaches.

They're easy to make, just add five - 10 drops of oil to four ounces of water. Soak a washcloth in the solution and apply to the area while you lie down, relax and breathe!

Suffering from sinusitis or other respiratory problems? Find quick, temporary relief by adding six to 12 drops of eucalyptus oil to a bowl of steaming water, covering your head with a towel, and breathing the vapors. Keep eyes closed during this treatment. You'll probably cough a lot, but it will get things moving, so keep a tissue handy!

For a soothing or energizing bath, add eight drops of essential oil to a full tub, or four drops for a foot or hand bath.

Prefer showers? Soak a washcloth in the essential oil/water or essential oil/carrier oil solution and apply to the skin while under the spray. However, don't do this if you have skin allergies.

Feeling Stressed out? Aromatherapy and stress are a natural fit. Lavander is my hands-down favorite oil for aromatherapy stress relief. It’s one oil I never let myself run out of!

Just a few whiffs brings instant calm. It can be used as a body spray or even perfume, as it (and Tee Tree oil)can be applied directly to the skin.

Spraying essential oil in the air adds a pleasant fragrance to the room. It also calms the nerves and promotes a sense of well-being in everyone in it.

To make your own aromatherapy spray, add a dozen drops of oil to a 4-oz. spray bottle of distilled water and spray away!
